A good day

Today was a good day. The coolness of fall helped put everyone in a good mood and we stayed home all day!
After a morning of mostly housework, (the 4-year-old hasn't quite understood the value of her earned coins over quantity:) daddy decided to tackle the kitchen floor (happily, *after* I finished the daily cooking!)  We finally "did school" in the afternoon and it was so pleasant! Both girls were able to sit and focus for quite some time. Big sister and I began mapping an alphabetical list of countries and noting the global address (latitude, longitude) of each one. I love learning along with them! (Where is Barbados?)  After that, chapter 10 of Hillyer's "A Child's History of the World" listed the 12 gods of Mt Olympus, with their Greek and Roman names and key image for each. Big Sis actually requested that we do this activity. She enjoys drawing as I read. The stories are written with that in mind.
Somewhere along the way we went outside and discovered a small frog trapped in a bucket. It got out, of course, and both girls had fun chasing it around the yard.

The goal this year is for Little sis to identify the continents. Today she picked up the inflatable globe and asked where we live and where is the water.  Big Sis and I will pick one country from each continent for study.
What is culture?
Music, art, dress, food, values, legal issues...

Her first choice was America. I guess it is logical to start at home...
What is unique about USA?
Jazz music.
The African American experience. (HISTORY!)
Jazz, An American Saga,  by James Lincoln Collier   includes a list of key performers in the back of the book, so I've created a playlist on youtube for us to listen to throughout the day. I also stumbled across appalachian music history videos. The internet can be a wonderful thing. "I set before you this day a blessing and a curse..." (Deuteronomy 11:26)

God, help us be wise stewards of the resources YOU have given.
